March 9, 2018...a sad day for the Class of 1988

Sadly, on March 9, we lost one of our beloved classmates...Chris Gedney...#84 passed away.  I know for many of us...if not all...this news shook us beyond belief.  We all have good memories of Chris...whether we were friends with him, shared classes with him, were team-mates with him, watched him play football or basketball...he was a part of our Liverpool community, our Syracuse community & we were proud of his success.  He was one of our own... many felt connected to him in one way or another.  One of the good ones...always kind, always humble no matter his success, a friend to all...gone way too soon.  For those who wish to read his obituary, this is the link...  http://obits.syracuse.com/obituaries/syracuse/obituary.aspx?pid=188432656 Many have expressed a desire to help & we as a committee have a suggestion... this is the post we posted on our FaceBook page...

 As many of you know & for those of you who are not aware...after our 20th we had some money left over & wanted to use the money to "Pay it Forward" so to speak...so we created the LHS Class of '88 Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of all of our classmates that have passed & worked with the LHS Dollars for Scholars to offer scholarships to graduating Liverpool Seniors. As long as we had funds available, we were able to participate with this program...& whenever we had "Mini" reunions, we would hold raffles to raise money & we also raised money during our 25th to benefit our Memorial Scholarship fund.
So, when we began planning our 30th this year, we began working to organize a PayPal donate button to help us to raise money for the memorial fund. 
Then... we got the news on Friday March 9th of Chris' passing πŸ˜’πŸ’” & we all felt strongly about wanting to do something special in his memory & we knew many of you would too. He touched all of our lives in some way, whether we knew him well or not, we were all proud of him & his accomplishments & like Michelle Lamson said in her post..."he was ours first"πŸ˜‰ When we talked, we all felt strongly about following his family's lead & honoring their wishes about where they would like donations to go. With the release of the obituary last night, we now know that the Syracuse Football Club established the fund to 100% benefit the Gedney children. πŸ’žπŸ’ž
So...what we would like to do is Two-Fold with one-step...we would like to set up the PayPal donate button to raise money for the Class of '88 Memorial Scholarship to honor all of our classmates that have passed...Chris included...to help a graduating senior begin their collegiate journey.  AND with the money raised...on behalf of the Liverpool Class of 1988...a donation will be made with 50% of those funds to the Syracuse Football Club for the Gedney children. 
This way we are honoring all of our classmates equally & at the same time paying tribute to Chris & helping his greatest accomplishment his greatest legacy...his children. πŸ’žπŸ’žπŸ’žπŸ’ž


We have set up a PayPal Donate campaign to help us to raise money for the Liverpool Class of 1988 Memorial Scholarship Fund...half  (50%) of all of the money raised will be sent to the fund set up by the Syracuse Football Club to benefit the Gedney children.  Our campaign will run from now until the reunion.  We hope that you will all consider donating to the fund...as explained above...it will honor the memory of all of our classmates that have passed and at the same time pay tribute to Chris & help his 4 children.

Can it really be true?!!?? Are we really celebrating 30 years? Yes!! 30 years since we graduated!!!

Liverpool High School Class of 1988 30th REUNION!!!!

Honestly...it seems like yesterday that we were 18 & were well on our way to all kinds of new beginnings & new adventures!!!  So hard to believe it's been 30 years since we walked the stage at the War Memorial in late June of 1988!!  

Anyway...here we are and preparations for our 30th are well underway!!  I know many of you are on FaceBook and we have connected with many of you there... but for those of you who may not be...we have this blog & all of the details for our Reunion Weekend will be posted here.  Please feel free to share this link with anyone from the class that may not be affiliated with any social media sites!! We would like to reach as many classmates as possible & make this the BEST Reunion YET!! :)  We had a great turnout for the last 2 & we ALWAYS have an amazing time but I have a feeling that no one will want to miss this one!! 

SOOOOO....this is the scoop!!  Our 30th Reunion Weekend is set for August 3~4, 2018!  We will kick~off our weekend on Friday night (7:30 pm) at the Blue Spruce Lounge( http://www.mwsyracuse.com/Amenities/BlueSpruceLounge ) located on 7th North Street and is attached to the Maplewood Suites (http://www.mwsyracuse.com/ )  which is where we will be blocking off rooms for our weekend!  The Blue Spruce will have a LIVE band that night (TBA) and we are hoping for a beautiful weekend so we can take advantage of their outdoor patio.  Whatever the weather, we know it will be a great start to a fabulous weekend with friends...old and new!! 

On Saturday night...the party continues at Sharkey's Bar & Grill (http://sharkeysbarandgrill.com/)...the old Hooligans...7240 Oswego Road, Liverpool, NY 13090.
Sharkey's is a great indoor and outdoor venue where we are hoping to enjoy another LIVE band, outdoor bar and volleyball pits!  They will offer drink specials and we will be collecting $$ at the door for munchies...it will be another fantastic night of music, great friends sharing memories and making new ones!!

WE CAN'T WAIT TO SEE EVERYONE!!!  If you haven't been to a REUNION yet...please consider coming & reconnecting!!  It's not at all what you expect & so much better than high school!!  TRUST US!!  You will be soooooo glad you came!!

Class of '88 25th Reunion...ONLY 4 DAYS AWAY!!

Can you believe we are only 4 days away!!?? Our much anticipated reunion week is HERE & everyone is buzzing with excitement!!!  Our facebook page has been blowing up & everyone is EXCITED!!  It is going to be a great weekend & everything is falling into place!!
We are kicking off the weekend @ our beloved Meghan MacMurphy's!!  Hoping everyone is in town in time to join us!!  Then it's time for our MAIN EVENT  on Saturday night...a CLAM~BAKE @ the Spinning Wheel Restaurant!!  We have lots of fun in store for everyone with our all you can eat buffet...lots of clams but there will be PLENTY of other things to eat too!  I know not everyone enjoys clams! There are about 27 things on the menu including DRAFT BEER!!  And because of our wonderful "Class~Connections" we have up~graded our beer selection!!  So, bring your appetites & come thirsty!!
A DJ & a photo~booth will help to add to the FUN!!   We will also have a professional photographer on site to capture memories & do a group shot that will be available for purchase.  So...get ready to PARTY & have an unforgettable weekend connecting with old friends & making new ones!!  We are ready to create incredible memories!!

Hi everyone!!!  Can you believe that we are only a month away??  31 days until our 25th Reunion Kick~off @ Meghan MacMurphy's on Friday, July 26th @ 7 p.m.!!  And then on Saturday, our MAIN EVENT...A Clam~bake @ The Spinning Wheel Restaurant from 6~10 p.m.

Hotel Information



We have locked in  special rates with several different hotels in Liverpool...

Ramada Inn on Buckley Road...$119.99/night includes complimentary full breakfast each morning.  This rate is available Thursday, July 25, Friday, July 26 & Saturday, July 27th.  Rooms available have either 1 Queen bed, 2 Queen beds or 1 King bed.

Answer to the BIG question...How much are we talkin'??


First of all...THANK YOU for your patience!!  We have been working feverishly to keep costs down for our 25th Reunion & give you all the most "Bang for your BUCK!" Especially for those of you who are traveling in from out of town!! 

SO...the Grand Total for 2 nights of events is...$53.00 per person!! 


On Friday night, July 26th, Meghan MacMurphy's is graciously charging us the same price that they did 5 years ago...only $5!!   Your $5 includes munchies throughout the evening...continuous pizza & cheese & veggie platters.  It will be a CASH BAR...however there will be drink specials throughout the evening.

On Saturday night, July 27th we will be meeting for our MAIN EVENT @ The Spinning Wheel Restaurant for our 25th Reunion CLAM~BAKE.  The cost for the clam~bake is $48.00 per person.  This includes all~you~can~eat buffet & non~stop draft beer from 6~10 p.m.  It also includes DJ entertainment & a photo~booth :)  We have also set up a shuttle to transport anyone to the hotels that may need a ride...SAFETY is our primary concern & we want everyone to have a great time & enjoy themselves BUT at the same time...if you feel that you have had a "wee too much" to drink...please, please, please...take advantage of our shuttle & grab a ride to the hotels.  We will help you worry about your car in the morning.

Photos by Fine with be joining us & taking photos throughout the evening.  They will be doing candid shots & will also be doing a group shot.  The group shot will be available in a portfolio and for sale for $25.  Candid shots will also be available for additional cost.

AND...for those of you who attended our Saturday night event @ our 20th @ the Empire Room...you will most definitely remember the fabulous home~made Italian cookies that we had.  WELL...the delishiousness is returning to our 25th!!  Couldn't let any of you that missed our 20th feel any worse than you already do ;)  These home~made cookies are TO DIE FOR...& worth the trip alone!

So...in a nutshell & to re~cap...the cost of our 25th LHS Reunion is $53.00 per person.  Only $5 for Friday night & Only $48.00 for Saturday night.  You will have the choice to pay for both together or you can pay for one or the other on our reunion website.  Tickets will go on sale by the 31st of May...at the latest.  A link to our site will be posted on Facebook & if we have your contact information, you will also be sent an email with reunion details & a link to our reunion website.   Payment must be received by no later than July 15th.

25th Reunion Weekend "Kick~Off Party" @ Meghan MacMurphy's!!

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND!! :) We will be kicking off our 25th Reunion weekend @ Meghan MacMurphy's!! We all had so much fun @ our 20th @ Meghan's that we just couldn't think about doing anything different this time! So! Anyone that is town Friday night...PLEASE JOIN US!! We will be charging $5 AT THE DOOR for the munchies that will be provided through the evening. It will be a CASH BAR & as always Meghan's will be offering beer & drink specials. They always take such good care of us ;)

Well it's official!! Plans for the 25th are in the works!!

**DRUM~ROLL PLEASE!!** SAVE THE DATE!!! LHS Class of 1988 25th Reunion weekend is planned for July 26~27!! Saturday night...A Clam~Bake @ the Spinning Wheel Restaurant will be our main event from 6~10 pm...lots of plans & details are in the works & will be announced ASAP so please stay tuned!! Just wanted to get the date out there so everyone can start making their SUMMER~HOMECOMING plans!! Thank you all for your input with the various polls...we appreciate your help! We promise to plan a reunion weekend that will be unforgettable!! :) Can't wait to see everyone in JULY!!

The Party Continues...

Hi everyone...hope this finds you all well & that you've all recovered from our crazy, sleep-deprived weekend!! I know many of us...myself included...aren't as young as we think we are & tried to keep the pace we did when we were in high school & it came back to bite us...with a big, fat cold!! Anyway, I hope everyone is feeling better!! :)

Regarding my title...let me explain. There was lots of talk at the reunion about Facebook...the online social networking site. Many people asked if I was a member & to be honest, I had heard about it but never paid any attention. I knew it was like MySpace & didn't really have any interest...that stuff is for kids! Well, it's all Jon Bowerman's fault...he sent me an invitation to check it out & I did. I'm really glad I did! Many of us that were at the reunion have kept the party going on Facebook. It is so much fun & such a great way to keep in contact. It's different than email and very addicting. I check Facebook more often than I check my email. So, I guess what I am trying to say is...if you haven't checked it out...do it & join the rest of us nitwits at our never-ending 20th Reunion!!

ATTENTION!! ANYONE WHO WANTS A CLASS OF '88 T-SHIRT WHO DIDN'T GET ONE ON FRIDAY NIGHT!!! Contact Michael Hunt at sport-tees@columbus.rr.com. He is still taking orders, if you are interested. He also mentioned having hoodie sweatshirts, too!!

Also, Kris Burkey is the photographer that was there taking pictures on Saturday night. WHAT A WEEKEND!!!

OMG!! We had soooo much FUN! It was such a Blast!!

On behalf of the Class of '88 20th Reunion Committee, we would like to thank all of you that came to the Reunion this weekend. Thanks to all of you, it was a tremendous success & we think we can honestly say that a great time was had by all! All of the feedback so far has been very positive & we've had lots of people wondering when the next one is...honestly people...we need to catch our breath first before we start talking about the next one! But, rest assured...there will be a next one & it will be even better than this one...if that's possible!!
It was so good to see everyone & if I do say so...Everyone Looks Awesome!! We are all growing old (did I say that?!) very gracefully!! For the most part, everyone looks the same & just as good as we did 20 years ago!

We had about 230 people join us at Meghan MacMurphy's! Quite the crowd but everyone was so excited to see everyone that no one noticed that we were right on top of each other! Most everyone hung around for most of the night & a handful of us even closed the bar @ 2 a.m.! Just like the old days...but not as easy to bounce back as it used to be!! A special thank you goes out to Michael Hunt for making T-shirts for our Reunion. They are awesome & a great way to commemorate the event! They were a Big Hit & thanks to Katie..every last one was sold!

Saturday was just as successful as we had about 200 people or so. Many different faces joined us on Saturday that weren't there on Friday, so it was just as exciting as the night before! Saturday wasn't as casual as the Happy Hour & everyone looked great in their somewhat formal attire!

Towards the middle of the evening, Katie presented her awards to 1st check received to Karen (Millane) Whitney, Last Minute Charlie to Lisa Thornhill, Amy (Sachs) Yam (same letters in 1st name as in her last name), farthest travelled went to Emmy Hart from Washington and 1st Email response went to Michael Hunt & High School Sweethearts...just to name a few! We were also able to get a class picture with everyone that attended & that was interesting...to say the least!

We had a 50/50 Raffle both nights however the "Pot" was never claimed on Friday night...SO...we added $188 to the Saturday night total to make a grand total Jackpot of $299! The lucky winner was...drum roll, please...Mark Spadafore!! Congratulations, Mark!! :)

The food was great according to those that ate...we had reports from some that they were having such a good time catching up with everyone that they forgot to eat & were starving when it was time to leave!

It was a fantastic weekend & one that won't soon be forgotten. T~Minus 7 days & counting...

Wow!! I can't believe we're only a week away! Just a little update...I just came from Traci's & we are so excited about the turnout! We are expecting close to 200 (YES!! 2 freakin' hundred!!) on Friday night @ Meghan MacMurphy's & about 170 for Saturday @ the Empire Room!! Amazing!! NEVER & I mean NEVER in a million years when we started this process did we think we would have such a great turnout...especially the way the responses TRICKLED in in August & early September! Word of mouth has been fabulous!! Thank you to all of you for spreading the word. We are going to have a great weekend!! It is gonna be awesome to see everyone!
OK...now for a little business...the hotel! Those who procrastinated past the deadline to book a room have lost our group rate. They may still have a few rooms available but they are probably smoking rooms. If you still need to book...please ask to speak to Andrew & tell him you are with the LHS Class of '88 & he will see what he can do for you...no promises...but worth a try! It is a busy weekend in Syracuse...Syracuse Home~coming & Dirt~Week at the Fairgrounds...so hotel rooms are going fast! So...chop~chop & book 'em if you haven't yet!

Hey...All you "Last Minute Charlies"...Great News!!!

Guess what?!? If you haven't sent your reservation & money to us yet...we have some great news for you! You have a little extra time to send it to Traci...luckily, we anticipated that we'd have some "last minute Charlie's" & we gave ourselves a little cushion. But please don't hesitate or procrastinate any longer!! It seems that everyone is waiting 'til the bitter last second...the RSVP's jumped by 40 just in the last few days!! Traci had someone stop at her house to drop off a check @ 8:15 tonight & some even left cash in her mailbox this afternoon!! Crazy...but good!! Classmates are falling out of the woodwork to make it to our 20th...we love it!!:)

We had a great meeting today and everything is falling into place...just last minute details to take care of & we're ready to party! This has really been a lot of fun to put together & we've had lots of laughs. We can't wait to see it all come together & have an amazing weekend with all of you reliving old memories & creating new ones!

Directions to the Empire Room, NYS Fairgrounds & Meghan MacMurphy's

Hi there...as promised...I have directions to The Empire Room, NYS Fairgrounds. The Empire Room is located in the back corner of the Fairgrounds next to the Horitculture Building. If you enter into Gate 2 (I believe)...the main entrance to the Fairgrounds, there will be signs directing you to the Empire Room. Look for the Orange & Blue balloons.

The Empire Expo Center, home of the New York State Fair, is immediately adjacent to Route 690 just West of Syracuse. It is easily accessible from the New York State Thruway (Rt. 90) from the West and East, and from Route 81, North and South. Just follow the signs to the Fairgrounds.

From the West - Buffalo / Rochester Area Take the New York State Thruway (Rt. 90 East) to Exit 39, then follow Rt. 690 East.
From the East - Albany / Utica Area Take the New York State Thruway (Rt. 90 West) to Exit 34A, follow Rt. 481 South, then follow Rt. 690 West.
From the North - Watertown Area Take Interstate 81 South into Syracuse to Exit 22. Follow Bear Street (Rt. 298) to Rt. 690 West.
From the South - Binghamton or Cortland Area Take Interstate 81 North into Syracuse, then follow Rt. 690 West


Meghan MacMurphy's Pub & Restaurant is located on 7990 Oswego Road (Rte. 57) next to Suburban Hardware & across from Seneca Mall. If you are headed North on 57, it is located on your right. If you are headed South on 57...you guessed it...it's on your left.

Directions to the Best Western


Hi everyone...we've had some inquiries about directions to the Best Western where we have a block of rooms so I copied the directions & map directly from their website. Their website is bwliverpool.com if you would like to check out their site to see what they have to offer.

Directions:
From: Interstate 81 North Take Exit 25, turn right on 7th North Street and travel about one mile to Electronics Parkway and turn right (at T-intersection), go to the 2nd light, take a left to Best Western Liverpool Grace Inn and Suites.
From: Interstate 90 East/West Take Exit 37, turn right after the toll, stay to the right and make left at 1st traffic light to Best Western Liverpool Grace Inn and Suites
From: Interstate 81 South Take Exit 25, turn right on 7th North Street and travel about one mile to Electronics Parkway and turn right (at T-intersection), go to the 2nd light, take a left to Best Western Liverpool Grace Inn and Suites.

TIME IS RUNNING OUT...!!

Hi everyone...Time is running out to send your reservations & money to Traci. If you haven't already done so, please get them to her by the 15th of September...that's next Monday. Just want to remind everyone again...we will be unable to accept money at the door on the night of the events. In case you don't have it right in front of you, Traci's address is 4933 Merrill Drive Liverpool, NY 13088. Please make your checks out to LHS Class of 1988. Strangely enough, there has been a little confusion on the price of the events. Happy Hour Friday night is $5 per person & the Reunion Saturday@ the Empire Room is $40 per person...so if you are planning on both events & you are bringing a guest the total on your check will be $90. If you are planning to go stag...the total is $45.
I would also like to remind all of you that if you are planning to stay at the Best Western where we have blocked off rooms, reservations must be made by Sept. 20th to receive our special group rate...after the 20th the rates return to the going rate. To make reservations...please call the Best Western @ 315-701-4400.
5 more weeks & we'll all be picking up right where we left off...reconnecting with old friends, maybe rekindling old flames, or sparking some new flames, or just mingling & making new friends & creating new memories. Whatever your reason for coming to our 20th Reunion...we're excited to see everyone & look forward to a great weekend with all of you!!

Just a reminder...

Hey Liverpool...Class of '88!! We're getting close...HOLY COW...only 47 more days until the kickoff of our 20th Reunion Weekend!! It's coming fast...so just a friendly reminder...please don't forget to send in your responses & $$ to Traci by September 15th. By now, you should have received an invitation via email in July PLUS a reminder email was sent the other day from Jody. Traci has also posted a couple of announcements on Classmates.com about the upcoming festivities. Hopefully, we have reached a large portion of alumni between the 2. There are a bunch of people who have responded on classmates & said they are coming however Traci has not received your responses in her mailbox...unfortunately we have to use "snail-mail" for this portion of it. Gotta dust off those stamps & stick it in the mailbox.
**We will not be able to accept payment at the door, so reservations & checks will have to be sent to Traci by mail.
If you need a copy of the invitation...there is one posted here...just scroll down a wee bit (it's highlighted in Orange) & you can copy, paste & print a copy for yourself.

Hot Off the Presses...Did everyone get their invitation??!!

The invitations have been sent to everyone we have addresses for via EMAIL! If you have not received your invite, please contact one of us (address links in the orange column to your right) to make sure we have the correct contact information for you. The invitation is also posted below & on the LHS alumni site (in the Reunion Info section). If you would like to print a copy, you just need to copy & paste. An annoucement has also been posted on Classmates.com, so if you are registered there...please check your email for a notice from Classmates.com in last couple of days.
Our main objective has been to try to reach as many people as possible! We don't want anyone to feel left out. We have been pretty successful however we have a huge class & unfortunately we haven't found everyone...hopefully everyone who is interested in coming, has found us. We are still looking for contact info & will continue to send the invitation to anyone new we find until our deadline in September...so keep 'em coming!:)
Hope you all received the invite...can't wait to see you all in October!!
